Section 504 of the IDEA prohibits discrimination based on disability.  However, this assumption that a child's needs are continuous at least for the school year does not always apply to children diagnosed with PANDAS. These children usually have episodic needs which may wax and wane dependent on many variables, including flare ups.   These changing needs must also be met through federal regulations.  Parents must know their rights and school personnel and social workers need to assist parents in advocating for children in the classroom.    Section 504 states that "Therefore as long as there is data that serves as evidence supporting the need for accommodations, children MUST be allowed appropriate accommodation..."
